After the US midterm elections on 3 November 2026, Democrats took control of both chambers of Congress. With the new Congress due to take office on 3 January 2027, they will be able to set its agenda and introduce a new package of direct financial and military assistance for Ukraine. Zelensky said he hopes the change will increase US support and bring Russia closer to negotiations.
