تقدير جديد fervret UkraineArnarn population on government-controlled territory at 28.5 million
The Institute of Demography estimated that Ukraine's government-controlled territory had 28.5 million residents in mid-2026, about 500,000 fewer than the previous estimate. Migration, rather than war deaths, was identified as the main cause of population decline, while mortality continues to substantially exceed births.
