The network extends Russian influence operations beyond Ukraine into African media and political environments, distributing anti-Ukrainian and anti-Western narratives and seeking to normalize the occupation of Ukrainian territory.

ماذا حدث

Viginum uncovered GlobUs, a Russian influence network led by Yulia Berg and Andrii Hromov. The network organizes information campaigns in Africa, including Cameroon and Congo, collaborates with local journalists, bloggers and political figures, and uses African media to spread anti-Ukrainian and anti-Western materials. According to Viginum, its three Telegram channels have a combined audience of more than 75,000 subscribers.

كيف تصفه المصادر الأوكرانية

Ukrainian coverage focuses on the network's links to former Yevgeny Prigozhin structures, Russian state-controlled influence efforts, propaganda involving occupied Ukrainian territories, and the impact of Russian narratives on African audiences. It also notes Ukraine's earlier request to close all Russian World centers worldwide.

كيف تصفه المصادر الدولية

French authorities characterize GlobUs as a foreign digital-interference and influence network operating through African media, journalists, bloggers and political actors. France is seeking EU sanctions for those involved in its activities. The French assessment also says that part of Prigozhin's former influence network reportedly came under the control of Russian state structures after his death.

الخلفية

Andrii Hromov founded the Viposhchennia foundation in 2022, which spread Russian narratives about the war in Ukraine and organized trips for foreigners to occupied territories. With the foundation's support, GlobUs created the film "The Reality of Donbas," which promoted the Russian version of the 2014 events and was broadcast in English, French and Russian by Afrique Média TV. Yulia Berg has been under US sanctions since 2021 for participation in disinformation and influence operations in Africa and Europe.
